Family Law Introduction

Class attendance Alert:  many have recently been absent and late to class (abnormally high number!) Absences - as long as excused - no problems.  Do remember to attend flex during that week to make up work missed.  Please reign this in (particularly tardiness).  Tardiness is starting to get to the point of being very disrespectful to peers and myself.

Flex Time:  this week it will be Wednesday and maybe Friday (Other commitments Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for sure - maybe Friday)

Reminder we will be going on a field trip next Wednesday and forms will be available as soon as I get a bus booked.

This week's tentative schedule:

Monday:  Introduction to Family Law (*this will be a quick unit of 1 week!)

                 (marriage, ending a marriage, children and other issues related)

First:  Students - created a 3 column chart with headings marriage, divorce and other. 

Then they brainstormed questions and/or things they thought they knew but were not sure and want to confirm about marriage, divorce and other family related concerns (eg. same sex marriages, common law, adoption,...) - I collected these.  Why?  To pre-assess class knowledge and also to inform where I should spend more time teaching based on student interest.

Second:  some discussion around a current events family law / ethical issue regarding fertility treatments and a radio contest.

Third:  notes - Marriage (essential requirements) can be found in Chapter 13

Homework:  Read chapter 13 up to and including section 13.4 so that you are prepared for activities with the TOC tomorrow.  They will be collected at the end of the class.

Tuesday:  TOC Ms Hoffer

You will have some in class tasks to complete and hand in at the end of the block.
