About Us

How Ms Lees' Classes began blogging....
It started with reflections in Hum 8 and my experimentation / sharing of my English 9 literary blogging with the classes in the fall of 2011. Research has shown that students who become more conscious of the skills or concepts they are learning in lessons, through identifying and articulating them in the form of reflections and connections, retain more of their learning. They also become better at understanding what is important in individual lessons. We began these reflections on paper at the beginning of the year feedback offered orally to individual students and the whole class.

What about Law 12?

This year students will be creating individual e-portfolios with an fhlearn.ca account. These are in the process of being set up.

Additionally students will be using Blogger for their group blogs. These will also be set up this week. Last year my Law 12 class started late in the semester. They also blogged in groups, like discussion groups online, but their topics were primarily legal and or ethical issues in current events. See the instructions page for further details. The assessment rubric for their group blogging can be found in the course materials in the right sidebar.

This year we plan to do the same and we may be experimenting with some other ideas too. For example, I am working on connecting with a teacher in New Zealand who also teaches legal studies to seniors. If you have suggestions please send them to me.

Welcome to the world of networked intelligence!

Using our blogs, rather than your own social media networks, allows me to see your critical thinking, collaborative and problem solving skills. It also allows us to learn how to become responsible active digital citizens in an increasingly connected world.

It's going to be a great year!

Stay tuned!
