Reflections for "Flawed Law Activity"

The past several days we have worked on an exercise to examine a flawed "fake" law through identifying stakeholders, and the possible consequences and concerns of the varied groups.  This law was flawed in many ways.

Individual Reflections:  To be handed in and  attached to your research notes, questions and any other process you prepared for this activity.  

Due:  Wednesday Feb 18 - Happy Lunar New Year! (Feb 19)

1.  Describe the learning intentions or the purpose behind this activity?  Basically - consider
     all the things this introductory activity allows me, as the teacher to learn about the class, and you,
     as the student to show / learn as an introduction to Law 12.

Break the learning intentions into 2 areas:

       a) Content - What do you suppose you were meant to learn about the law from the activity?  
           These may be broad concepts or specific content (eg. rights vs freedoms)

       b) Skills - what skills was the task designed to have students demonstrate and how?
           (eg.  analysis through breaking down the language of the law and trying to figure out the
           intent behind the "letter of the law" - literal interpretation and the "spirit" of the law - what is
           the social issue or social "ill" the law is attempting to address.)

2.  What did you do well individually?  Give specific examples.  What could you do have done
     better? Explain.  You should discuss your individual contributions to your preparation/research,
     group discussion and sharing / questioning today.

3.  What do you think your group did well?  Give examples (observations) or evidence to support
     your statements.   What strategies did you and your group use to arrive at your final revised "new
     and improved" law?  What worked and did not work well within your group?  Explain.

4.  What recommendations do you have to make our class or group discussions better?  Explain the
     problem you are addressing or how your suggestion could make our class and/or group
     discussions better.
