Help Please! Use your networks to spread the word to ask peers to read blog for field trip

Reminders for May 19-22
Monday - Holiday!

Tuesday
FIELD TRIP ALERT: Must bring your field trip forms!!! If we do not have enough people (26 of 29), then we cannot afford to pay for the bus to go and I will need to cancel the bus and the trip :(

THIS IS WHY I NEED YOUR NETWORKED HELP GR 12s!
You will have a TOC, Ms. Saltel, on Tuesday as I will be at a District Humanities Dept Head meeting all day, but I will return after school to ensure we have enough forms to attend our field trip. If you know for sure you are unable to attend, please email me.  I only know of Devon so far. Reminder - you should not miss any other classes, that day as we will return by 12:00 pm. I will also be asking Ms Saltel to email me of the numbers in case I need to cancel the bus at lunch.  Forms are of first priority, money can be collected Wednesday if forgotten.  Additionally, if you were absent on Friday or Tuesday during handing out of forms or collecting them, please email me with your intentions and I will do my best (eg. Jordan was going to be away on Tuesday - please email me if you plan to attend or not on Wednesday).

In class, you will have time to finish off your Family Law assignment (extra handouts and field trip forms will be available for those who were absent).  You will also need to read ahead to be prepared for your next cases in Tort Law.  To do this please read up on the chapter with Intentional and Unintentional torts.  Additionally, I think I still have notes posted in the sidebar if you are without a text book.  I am not asking you to make notes but I do need you to read them and be familiar with them for your next cases / mock trials.

Assignment 1:  (In class) Custody Assignment - paired assignment
Intentions - to show (specifically state)  the pros and cons for all custody options - to demonstrate your understanding of how custody is determined (best interests of the child, to demonstrate your application of reasoning skills and application of legal language/terminology in your final judgement - basically being able to use the family related legal language appropriately and effectively).

  1. sole - both with mom
  2. sole - both with dad
  3. sole - boy with dad, girl with mom
  4. sole - boy with mom, girl with dad
  5. joint physical custody - 50/50 sharing of physical and legal decisions 9medical, educational,...)
  6. joint legal custody but physical custody with mom
  7. joint legal custody but physical custody with dad
  8. joint legal custody but physical custody is split (like options 3 or 4)
  9. others?
Finally - make a joint decision and justify your custody arrangement.

Assignment 2:  You were given 2 riso handouts with 5 or 6 family law cases

Mandatory cases:  Murdoch vs Murdoch and Petkus vs Betker

Then choose 1 other case based on your interest or to best demonstrate your understanding of the case - if you do not understand the case, don't choose it.  Please give your case the appropriate title eg. Zedner vs Zedner

Expectations - each case has their own questions to be answered in full sentences/ small paragraphs if necessary.  Yes - in gr 11/12 I expect to be able to understand the question being asked from your response, have not pronoun confusion (he's and she's) and your responses should be written on separate paper).  Use and apply legal language where possible.

Otherwise - I really hope you are enjoying your long weekend :)  Only 4 weeks and 3 days to go till the end of classes, ... oh my !
